"The Essence of productivity is the ability to stick with the task, and dive into the task. Wit

How do you manage to work in a global team when you are faced with different cultural settings? (Kill the ego, Execution over ideas, if the person understands you, real time collaboration.) How do you deliver an idea in the clearest way so they can understand you?

Let’s say you send an email and you cc someone else. You never know the mood of the person when your message is sent. Therefore, whatever you are writing can come off as polite or not polite in the other person’s perspective. For example, in the U.S, people use the first name to contact someone. In Germany, it is considered impolite. But if the ego is there, people’s perception might be: why is this person attacking me for no reason? It is about reading between the lines. Then, there are challenges when it comes to communication.

Also, I enjoy sending voice messages from time to time because I am in a rush. Some people hate it. And might not even consider trying it. It is the ego again. Choosing the right channel of communication method based on the right mood is very important. I sometimes also hit people in the wrong mood or the wrong way. It is just because too many people stick to their way.

You discuss about Synchronous and Asynchronous on your video. Could you tell us a bit more about that?

I was looking at how calibration affects communications. To make it simple, I define asynchronous as you write or read. The reading is so fast to grab information and to get facts. On the other side, the synchronous communication is more emotional.

We talk and it is much faster than the way our counterpart can follow us. We talk twice as fast. So you want to meet on both sides of the spectrum. You have all these tools (software applications like Slack, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger etc.) available. You have files that are very asynchronous, and a messaging system. It’s becoming more synchronous when you use something like google docs, when you share text, and make notes. And at the same time, we (the collaborators) can see what is happening to the text. Then you move to the synchronous side, where you have a full conversation via video or phone, or personal meetings. There is this human connection that you need in order to get a whole idea.

So our rule of thumb is, the more emotional the task, the more synchronous the communication. So when it comes to a topic where you disagree with your partner, we need to be personal and private about it. This is the calibration of communication.

Jeff Bezos, CEO of amazon, wants a documentation prepared at the beginning of each meeting. It needs to be read in the first 15 minutes once the meeting starts. It is a great way because once the document is read, the participants in the meeting can talk more effectively in the meeting. So it can save more time to do other things afterwards.

What are your last words of recommendations to the young entrepreneurs who are hustling out there? And the young professionals working in a workplace?

When I first started in the internet business, I was 16. There was nothing, not even Youtube. This time, right now, is the best time to be an entrepreneur. Resources are so cheap and you can try things. Be persistent and ask yourself: “Do you really want to do that?”. Once you have made the decision, just do it. Unfortunately, many people give up on the way.

Are there 3 books you would recommend to the audiences? Or books you are reading right now.

1. Rockefeller Habits – By Verne Harnish

2. Flow - By Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

3. Seneca – On the tranquility of the mind (De Tranquillitate Animi)
